Save the British theatre industry

What the petition asks
Sonia Friedman, leading West End Producer, has recently stated that “without an urgent government rescue package, 70% of our performing arts companies will be out of business before the end of this year." In this time of crisis, the government must offer aid to UK theatres in financial jeopardy.
The theatre industry is hugely important for the well-being, creativity and expression of the nation at large.
The UK's annual theatre audience of 34 million, is twice that of the Premier League. In London, it contributes roughly £5 billion a year to the economy.
COVID-19 has had a devastating impact on the 290,000 individuals (many of whom are self employed) working in the theatre industry across the UK.
Just as other industries have received support, theatre needs the same life-line now.
