Intercept Bolsonaro’s plans to dismantle environmental protection
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
To mitigate President Bolsonaro and Minister Salles’ exploitation of the COVID-19 circumstances to deregulate legal protection of the Brazilian environment.
Minister Salles’ has called for development of the Amazon, saying it is “necessary to lift people out of poverty” and that there is a “need to make an effort while we are in this calm moment in terms of press coverage, because they are only talking about COVID”. In lieu of the 55% increase in Amazon deforestation since 2020, the prospective plans from the Brazilian government could be devastating; for the Amazon rainforest and environments. Sign this petition to prevent further deregulation.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or House of Commons is responsible for.
The protection and development of the Amazon is a matter for the governments of jurisdictions which cover the Amazon, and not the Government or House of Commons.
