What the petition asks
The proposed Amendment to the Equality Act 2010 focuses on specific DfE/education and anti-ASB & anti-discrimination/prejudice focused solutions, regarding improvement of UK Government departments and national agencies operational implementation level delivery of the provisions of the Equality Act.
Covid 19 has for BAME / diverse communities stress tested the Equality Act 2010 protections, consequently exposed as largely not delivering at society, implementation level. A 20%+ anti-Asian (including Gurkhas) increase in racist ASB has been recorded, with a comprehensive picture of anti-ASB & anti-discrimination responses & mechanisms substantially failing in view of those affected: BAME communities have come together to request education-based solutions to remedy this, linked to the Act.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We understand that you are concerned about the extent to which the Equality Act protects BAME groups, but it’s not clear exactly what change you want the Government to make. We can only accept petitions which make a clear request for a specific action from the Government.
