Petition · past parliament

Change the law regarding late term abortion due to potential disabilities.

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

I want the Government to amend the 1967 Abortion act so no baby may be aborted simply because it may have disabilities of physical or mental nature.
Allowing disability as a reason for abortion implies that disabled people, or the lives of disabled people, are less worthwhile than the lives of "normal" people.

We wouldn't permit abortion on the grounds of race or gender so why disability? It's fundamentally Eugenics and wrong.

If we are truly an equal and open society then this law must change.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Abortion after 23 weeks ("late term abortion) is permitted only if there’s evidence of a fatal foetal abnormality or a significant risk to the mother's life if she continues with the pregnancy.

We're not sure what change to that law you want to make.
