Make childcare affordable for working parents

Rejected 15 signatures

What the petition asks

Cap the costs of childcare so that all parents, if they wish to do so, can return to work after having children
Childcare is so expensive in the UK, it’s one of the most expensive in the whole of Europe. I want the UK government to cap the cost of childcare and help parents afford to go back to work. It shouldn’t be a matter of is it worth it because of childcare cost, you should always be better off at work.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The Government is not responsible for the cost of childcare. This is a matter for individual childcare providers, and deciding how much to spend on childcare is a matter for parents.

The Government already provides support for paying for childcare, and you can find out what support you can get here: https://www.gov.uk/childcare-calculator

We have published the following petitions calling for increased support for childcare costs, which you might like to sign:

Extend entitlements to free childcare for 2-year-olds to all working families: Extend entitlements to free childcare for 2-year-olds to all working families

Fund free childcare for key workers: Fund free childcare for key workers

We could accept a petition calling for other changes to current support for childcare costs, but you would need to be clear what changes you want the Government to make.
