What the petition asks

Black people have contracted COVID-19 at a higher rate
Black people have died from COVID-19 at a higher rate
All people need to do more to protect our Black citizens.

It would send the biggest message to society we are not institutionally racists, we can change and we can recognise the need to protect our citizens regardless of the colour of their skin. But if the colour of their skins is a higher risk factor that we can and will step up and make them safer.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The list of those considered to be extremely vulnerable, and therefore subject to the Government and NHS's shielding advice, is a clinical decision for the NHS, not the UK Government or Parliament.

Since you started your petition the Government has published a number of documents about Covid -19, disparities in risks and outcomes, and the impact on BAME communities.
