What the petition asks
The Government to make it compulsory for ALL public buildings, such as (but not limited to) town halls, libraries, and Council owned sports centres, to have externally located and publlicly accessible AED's/Defibrillators.
Only 3% of cardiac arrests happen within the recommended retrieval distance of a defibrillator, according to the Resuscitation Council (UK).
A defibrillator can mean the difference between life and death for the victim of a sudden cardiac arrest.
The British Heart Foundation’s figures show that only one in ten victims survive but this figure can increase with the use of a defibrillator - survival rates jump from 6 per cent to 74 per cent where a defibrillator is used within 3-5 minutes.
