Record the race of jurors in trials of BAME defendants.

I would like the government to record the race of jurors and the impact it has on BAME defendants. This would demonstrate how colour blind justice is in this country.

Jury selection and data recording is a matter for the Courts, not the UK Government or Parliament.

To understand the treatment of BAME people by the justice system, the Government commissioned the Lammy Review in 2017 which found that, on average, juries were consistent in their decision-making, irrespective of the ethnicity of the defendant. The Review does however make certain other recommendations to address concerns about the treatment of BAME people by the justice system.
