What the petition asks

Statues of historic slave traders should be taken down from public spaces and given to appropriate museums where they can be displayed in their proper context, both good and bad.

We want all of the statues of Slave Traders removed. They represent the painful history of Slavery by uplifting the disgusting British Slave Traders that stole people from all over Africa.

Since the removal of the Edward Colston statue in Bristol, people have argued these statues need to remain for historical value - but imagine walking past a statue celebrating men who enslaved your ancestors on a daily basis.

Please remove these symbols of racism from the streets.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Decisions about individual historical monuments, statues, plaques and street names are a matter for the local authority in which they are located and private landowners, not the UK Government or Parliament.
