What the petition asks

Please adjust the Key Stage Three National Curriculum to include a compulsory unit that must be taught to pupils that highlights the role Britain had to play in Slavery, Stealing of Land from Natives and the deaths caused by Famine and Invasion and how these atrocities still impact modern attitudes.

As a teacher, I feel it is my responsibility to be part of the education required to overcome the institutionalized racism that Nation of Great Britain was founded on. I think more must be done to discuss the cause of racism in schools rather than address it as merely a modern day problem. By not acknowledging the role Britain played in creating racism stops us from addressing the core of the problem. It is like treating the symptoms of a medical condition without addressing the underlying cause
