The government must ensure monuments & war memorials are protected from vandals

Rejected 18 signatures

What the petition asks

"The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history."

This week we see the truth of Orwells prediction. Historical illiterates rampaging around defacing statues, & the intellectual cowards appeasing then, have shamed themselves.
Since events in the US, the UK has seen protests focusing on defacing statues- eg Churchill (chief 'failure', stopping Hitler) & bizarrely, Abraham Lincoln (main 'failure' Freeing slaves apparently?)

Cowards in policing & politics, are legitimising this ignorance (when not kneeling in the streets).

We demand govt instruct police to protect war memorials & listed monuments, enforcing existing laws.

The argument for removing some statues is fair. Mob Rule is not the place for such decisions

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Decisions about how to respond to public disorder, including damage to public property, is an operational matter for local police, and not the Government or House of Commons.
