Introduce statutory regulation of the media.

What the petition asks
The British media have been able to operate for far too long without regulation. The government should bring forward legislation to create a statutory regulator for the media, to oversee the industry and take action when media outlets do not meet a defined criteria.
Freedom of the press is paramount to a free and democratic society, but there should be strict penalties for media outlets that publish or broadcast false or misleading information and statutory requirements for the prominence given to corrections.
