Reverse the decision to merge DFID with the FCO

Closed 130 signatures

What the petition asks

On 16 June PM Boris Johnson announced his plans to merge the Department for International Development (DFID) with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO). The goal of DFID is and always has been to promote equality and sustainable development, and to eliminate world poverty. It should remain intact.
DFID is one of the best performing departments in Government and a soft power asset for Britain. It works to save lives, fight climate change, and achieve gender equality. To lead the global fight against poverty and corruption, we must continue to provide the world's most vulnerable with essential support. Plus, merging the two departments will cost millions. We are in the midst of a global pandemic that should be taking priority. This is not the time to dissolve a vital Government Department.
