What the petition asks

There is currently a significant backlog of petitions. Some have been waiting over 100 days.

The Government have stated they have other priorities for Commons time, but petitions are an important way that the public can be heard. There must be time set aside in Parliament for their debate.
Petitions are an important way for the public to be involved in our democracy and Parliamentary business.

For the public to have faith in the petition system, it is important the Government allows the full process to happen. This must mean the Committee that overseas petitions is given parliamentary time to schedule debates. Often, the timing of petitions is important and delays in debate mean opportunities to intervene are lost.

The government must stop blocking these debates.
