What the petition asks
The Traditional Cider industry in the UK is being taken over by low ABV "fruit wines" or rather “alcopops” masquerading as “Cider”. We believe this must be stopped.
Companies selling “fruit wines” should not be allowed to use the word "Cider" on the label or in advertising.
Companies selling “fruit wines” should not be allowed to use the word "Cider" on the label or in advertising.
Bring into law that the only drinks that are allowed to use the term Cider for sale in the UK should be made from 95% apple juice.
According to Notice 162 from HMRC, adding certain flavours or colours means a product is a “Made-Wine”, therefore should not be allowed to use the term "Cider".
Cider is made from Apples. We believe the general public are being deceived.
