What the petition asks
During an historic movement for racial justice, rather than announcing a paint job, the Prime Minister should immediately redirect this money to the Windrush compensation scheme to help the victims of disgraceful, humiliating and traumatic Government failings.
The UK Government has £900,000 to spend on a paint job.
It also has more than 1,200 open compensation claims by victims of the Windrush scandal.
The Home Office has repeatedly recognised and apologised for the appalling treatment of these UK citizens, but only 60 people have received compensation in the first year of the scheme, out of 1,275 applications made as of March 2020.
