Enforcement of the financial penalties in Environmental Protection Act 1990 through paid wardens and local volunteers

Community service in the form of litter picking for those caught littering more than once

Signage in hotspots showing the environmental impact of littering and penalties
The UK has an increasing problem with of littering. It is believed that 62% of people drop litter.

The cost to the government is approximately £1billion (40,000 nurses or 434,000 school meals)

Litter has a devastating impact on nature, killing millions of animals every year and leads to vast pollution,

Research has shown that litter leads to tensions within communities and impact on the mental health of residents

The UK need an effective long term plan to solve this problem.
