Restrict social security benefits for claimants who commit criminal offences
Rejected
19 signatures
What the petition asks
A disproportionate number of those who took part in the recent riots, looting & acts of vandalism were on social security benefit. Anyone on such benefits who is found guilty of a criminal offence must have their benefit payments deducted until triple the cost of the damage caused is paid off.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We understand that you want the Government to change benefit entitlements for certain people, but decisions about compensation for criminal damage are a matter for the courts, not the Government or House of Commons. There are already mechanisms for courts to fine perpetrators of criminal damage, and to deduct fines from benefits.
