What the petition asks
Put a noise level check in the MOT test add ten pounds to the test , put large taxes on over limit machine, give police stopping power to check noise output, administer fines..
Spike loud noises effect everyone, Europe wide, exhaust pipe noises, mainly aftermarket fitted can reach 90 DB, as loud as a police siren , or standing on a runway, it penetrates into dwellings with no dilution where people are relaxing, kids sleeping and people just want to have a quit time in the garden.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Testing centres are already required to inspect a car’s exhaust system to ensure it does not breach legal noise limits as part of the MOT: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/car-parts-checked-at-an-mot/car-parts-checked-at-an-mot.
It is also illegal for cars to be modified to make their exhausts louder: https://www.gov.uk/noise-pollution-road-train-plane#:~:text=It's%20illegal%20to%20modify%20the,that%20creates%20too%20much%20noise.
You could start a petition calling for the legal noise limit for cars to be reduced from the current 74dB, as a way of tackling noisy exhausts, if that is something you'd like to happen.
