Create an ‘opt out’ system for the Bone Marrow Register and Cord Blood Bank

What the petition asks
I think all NHS hospitals should be able to save umbilical cords, where possible, and use them to help children and young adults (under 25) with a blood cancer.
I have met lots of children who have blood cancers and desperately need stem cells for transplantation. Bone marrow or cord blood can be used for this. Having given birth twice myself, I’m frustrated that I was not aware of this and mine were just put in the bin.
Given the recent change in organ donations being compulsory unless opting out, I feel the Bone Marrow Register and Cord Blood should be the same.
