Require child sexual abuse to be reported with penalties for failure to do so

What the petition asks
The Government should introduce legislation to require people with knowledge or suspicions of child sexual abuse to report this to the authorities, and make it an offence punishable by fines or a custodial sentence to fail to report or cover up suspected abuse, or facilitate a perpetrator.
I was sexually abused as a 13-year old and I am disgusted that many individuals and organisations assisted in keeping this quiet. New legislation could prevent this from happening again, and ensure that those who don’t report suspected child abuse can be held accountable.
