Don't make the wearing of face masks compulsory in public places in England

Closed 4,139 signatures

What the petition asks

I would like the government not to make the wearing of face masks compulsory in public places in England.
The case for wearing face masks to prevent the spread of Coronavirus isn't proven; in fact the Chief Medical Officer said only four months ago:'In terms of wearing a mask our advice is clear: that wearing a mask if you don't have an infection reduces the risk almost not at all. So we do not advise that'. Mask wearing is problematic for many people, the elderly, those with breathing difficulties and other health issues. The prevalence of Covid-19 in the community does not warrant such a step
