What the petition asks
The Government should negotiate continued UK participation in the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). It is relied upon by many UK citizens to access medical care when abroad within Europe.
For many UK citizens with health conditions this enables them to to take affordable travel insurance excluding their existing medical conditions .
A large number of UK citizen with serious or chronic health conditions find that they are unable to afford travel insurance or indeed are refused cover due to their condition. Over the years the EHIC facility has enable them to enjoy European travel and even enjoy holiday homes in Europe utilising travel insurance excluding existing conditions.
If EHIC does not continue post Brexit these citizens will no longer be able to travel to Europe and for some will require to sell their holiday homes.
