What the petition asks
We believe this anti-terror law aims to silence citizens and is a threat to the voices and rights of people the Philippines. The Government should condemn the law and impose sanctions on the Philippines over it to take a stand for freedom of speech.
A new anti-terror law is about to be passed in the Philippines that grants sweeping powers to president Rodrigo Duterte’s government.
With the wide latitude of discretion given to law enforcement agents and very limited accountability mechanisms for their abuses, the anti-terrorism law’s provisions allowing detention up to 24 days without charges, warrantless arrests, and the suppression of freedom of expression and right to privacy. We believe this law will silence the citizens of the Philippines.
