The UK primary teacher count fell for the first time in a decade (06/20) after primary bursaries were scrapped & according to forecasts, primary schools require 8000 extra teachers by 2024 to meet demand.
Only 14% of post graduates obtain a salaried route into teacher training. That means that 86% are either paying the full £9,250 per year or working full time in a school without any pay.
Bursaries are crucial to incentivise applications from skills and experienced diverse candidates.
