Make Ecocide a criminal offence in the UK

What the petition asks

We ask that the government make ECOCIDE, the wilful or negligent destruction of ecosystems whether by human agency or other causes, a punishable offence by law and to provide simple, effective deterrents for those in positions of responsibility, enforceable within existing criminal justice systems.

Ecocide- the wilful damage to, destruction of or loss of ecosystem(s) of a given area of land or sea- has been committed over decades and is currently permitted in the UK. This has led to the global climate and ecological crisis that threatens humanity and the survival of many species on Earth.

Many countries are starting to wake up to the urgency of the crisis, including France and Denmark. Now is the time for the UK to unite with them. Our survival depends on it. It is time to change the rules
