Make Betts Park SE20 safe - Install adequate lighting and CCTV
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
Six people have been murdered in and around Betts Park (Penge) in recent years, five of these crimes unsolved. The park needs adequate CCTV to help trace criminals, as well as increased lighting to ensure public safety.
People are dying, local residents feel unsafe. Cllr Kate Lymer, exec member for Public Protection & Enforcement says “The main pathways are lit, and we do not want to encourage further use (of the park) after dark,” adding "it is “impossible to cover a whole park in cameras, (which) can be easily avoided by those who wish to”. Local residents should not have to avoid parks for fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time - they should be made safe by the people who are responsible.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This is a matter for the local council.
