Youth Workers Should Be Key Workers The young people need Youth Services!

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Youth workers should be key workers, young people are in desperate need of support, mentally and physically.
Throughout the pandemic there has been no mention of youth work, the young people are in desperate need of support, so we ask you to allow youth clubs to be reopen, so that young people can benefit from the services.

Anti social behaviour on the rise, young people's mental and physical health on the rise, parents who work also need child care.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Workers are not formally classed as key workers in the UK. The Government did publish a list of critical workers, in the context of providing guidance on who could access schools or educational settings during the outbreak: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision#critical-workers

This list already covers people working in education and childcare, which could include youth workers. Schools and other educational settings are now being opened up more widely, but if you want the Government to explicitly add youth workers to the list of workers who are entitled to access schools or educational settings during the outbreak you could start a petition about this.

If you want the Government to take some other action in respect of youth workers, you could start a petition about this, but would need to be clear exactly what action you want the Government to take.
