Supermarkets should offer free face masks to shoppers

Rejected 10 signatures

What the petition asks

The government should pass a law to make it compulsory for the main supermarkets to offer free face masks to shoppers.
If face masks are necessary to fight COVID then it is not fair for shoppers to expect to pay for a mask every time they go shopping. Since the masks either have to be washed or replaced regularly to be effective, this will end up being very costly to the shoppers. Because the supermarkets have been making record profits during the lockdown, it is only fair to expect them to shoulder the burden of the masks and make them available free for shoppers.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government aren't responsible for the issue you raise. Issuing free masks would be a decision for individual retailers, not the UK Government or Parliament.
