Inquiry into how social media enforce rules & handle complaints equally & fairly

Closed 129 signatures

What the petition asks

We call for a Government inquiry into how social media companies operating in the UK conduct themselves, how they enforce rules and handle complaints equally and fairly, and how they are transparent and accountable to the public and their users.
Social media companies have billions of users and control a significant proportion of global communication. It is therefore essential that these organisations, with the incredible power they possess, enforce rules fairly and are accountable to the public. However, recent years have seen inconsistent enforcement of rules and a lack of transparency on the processes behind this. We therefore call for an inquiry to shed light on these issues and ensure freedom and equality are upheld online.
