What the petition asks

Place a moratorium on finance companies repossessing coaches and enforcing personal guarantees until the 2021 season starts at Easter. Protect the finance companies in turn by the British Business Bank covering the interest.

There are many small operators whose business has been destroyed by Covid-19 and whose owners have had to issue personal guarantees and will lose their homes without this law being applied. The proposal is cheaper than merely pumping £65m a month into the coach industry and also protects the finance companies.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The Government is not responsible for the enforcement of debts against particular sectors. This is a matter for individual creditors.
