What the petition asks
We request that the Government requires the PL are held to account in relation to the proposed and subsequently failed takeover of Newcastle United Football Club, of which Parliament will be aware. The PL are a public body who must be held to account by Parliament, answers and transparency.
The PL is subject to English and European law. In particular, during the takeover bid and process, the PL, specifically Richard Masters was asked questions, and held to account by Government MP's and ministers about the proposed takeover. Questions were asked by John Nicolson MP, Giles Waitling MP and various other Members of Parliament as part of the DCMS Committee.More recently, local MP's have themselves made clear they are deeply unhappy about the way the process has been handled to date.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
This sale is a matter for the parties concerned, and for the Premier League to assess under its Owners’ and Directors’ Test, and is therefore not a matter for the Government or Parliament.
You could start a petition calling on the Government to establish an independent inquiry into potential corruption in English football, if that's what you want to happen.
