Do not introduce any tariffs on imported food from the EU

What the petition asks
From 1 January 2021, HMRC could levy tariffs on foods imported from the EU, where no tariffs existed before. This would hit the poorest in our society disproportionately and amounts to a new Food Tax.
We call upon Parliament to ensure this does not happen.
Taxes on foods which are basic necessities have traditionally been avoided. Our country imports a substantial proportion of our food from the EU, particularly in colder months. Basic foods such as pasta, tinned tomatoes, fresh fruit and vegetables, and even HP Sauce (made in the Netherlands) could be subject to the Food Tax.
