Make poetry non compulsory for this year's GCSEs.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

It became optional to remove poetry from the English GCSEs this year because of the time lost because of the pandemic. It has now became compulsory which means we have to drop a play that we have already studied which means we have lost time.
We have lost time and it has given students from other schools an advantage if they have already studied the poems. It has also increased the amount of stress and it had made students more anxious for their English exams.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government aren't responsible for the issue you raise. Ofqual, the qualifications and exams regulator, decided to make only three of the four areas of study exam-assessed. It is then up to individual exam boards and schools to decide which areas of study are followed within these guidelines.
