What the petition asks
From September 2020, three main school subjects will now be taught in Mandarin in Mongolian schools. This could destroy the culture and ethnicity of Mongolian people in China. It has been previously carried out in the Tibet and Xinjiang Uyghur in China.
International human rights treaties protect an individual’s right to use their own language and individual and collective linguistic rights are manifested in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Articles 2, 10, 19, 22 and 26. The language rights are closely linked with the most fundamental human rights, including freedom of expression, the right to private life, non-discrimination, the right to education etc.
