Defend the rule of law

What the petition asks
The rule of law is a principle under which everyone is accountable to laws that are publicly promulgated and equally enforced. Recent statements by Ministers that erode this principle should be withdrawn. Parliament should reject legislative proposals that infringe international treaty commitments.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We understand that you are concerned about a recent statement by Ministers, but it is not clear what action you want the Government or House of Commons to take.
All legislation has to be considered by Parliament, and it is up to MPs and peers whether to approve this. Decisions about whether the Government is in breach of international law would be a matter for international courts.
If you are concerned about the Government's legislative proposals regarding the implementation of the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement, you might like to sign the following petition: Honour the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement
