Allow students to wear coats whilst in school during cold weather.

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

Where schools are opening windows throughout the day to allow ventilation due to the Covid19 pandemic, students should be allowed to wear coats. The common suggestion of base layers is impractical especially during autumn and spring where weather changes constantly. Coats are simply more practical.
Students sat for long periods of time in drafts and cold temperatures, wearing just uniforms, will contribute to the rise in the common cold and flu and will also effect concentration levels.

Where symptoms of the common cold and flu can mimic that of Covid19, students and consequently families are forced to isolate and those with symptoms taking Covid19 tests putting pressure on the testing system and those unable to work from home suffering financial hardship and inturn claiming benefit.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Deciding on school uniform policy is a matter for individual schools, not the Government or House of Commons.

The Government's Covid-19 advice to schools states that in order to balance the need for increased ventilation while maintaining a comfortable temperature, schools should consider providing flexibility to allow additional, suitable indoor clothing: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/actions-for-schools-during-the-coronavirus-outbreak/guidance-for-full-opening-schools

It is up to individual schools how to implement this guidance.
