Keep Locomotion No. 1 in Darlington

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Intervene to stop the decision made by the National Railway museum (part of the Science Museums Group) to withdraw the loan of Locomotion No 1 from the Head of Steam Railway Museum in Darlington.
In 1825, Locomotion No. 1 became the first steam locomotive to haul a passenger carrying train on a public railway. It's the jewel in the crown at Darlington's Head of Steam museum, and has been on display in the town for more than 160 years.

2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, with plans being developed for a new rail heritage quarter in Darlington. The possible loss of the jewel in the crown would be a major blow to the town.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government aren't responsible for the issue you raise.

Decisions about the loan of exhibits are made by individual museums, not the UK Government or Parliament.
