Ban plastic label and clothing fasteners and incentivise reuse of plastic items.

Closed 4,489 signatures

What the petition asks

Require manufacturers to find alternatives to plastic hooks, tags and loops on clothing (e.g. paired socks, folded packaged shirts, hanging loops on tops) and other products.
Require shops to charge for clothing hangers or operate a return/refund scheme to incentivise customers and reduce waste.
Phasing out single use plastic is a challenge, but we need to be moving more quickly where obvious alternatives exist or where the plastic items are simply unnecessary. Plastic label fasteners, hooks and tags are used throughout the clothing industry and on innumerable other products - these are snapped, cut, disposed of - at risk to wildlife in many cases, and never used again. Banning these items and requiring deposit-return schemes for clothing hangers would be a step in the right direction.
