What the petition asks

Prevent family court from being able to order breastfeeding mothers to wean their children.

It’s is barbaric that mothers can be ordered to wean their baby’s in child arrangement order cases to facilitate contact, especially where there’s been a history of abuse from the father. Other options need to be explored so a baby isn’t FORCEFULLY weaned abs literally taken from their mothers breast by family court

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Where parents cannot agree on arrangements for contact, these can be decided by the court, but the courts only have powers to make orders regarding contact, not other matters such as breasfeeding.

Decisions about contact are made based on the paramount consideration of the welfare of the child. It is for courts to decide what order to make based on all relevant circumstances, which will include whether a child is breastfeeding.
