Regulate the bike market and require frame number checks at repair.

What the petition asks
The Government should regulate the bike market by requiring bikes to have a unique frame number, and sold bikes to have their ownership registered. All bike repairs should be required to log frame numbers and not return the bike if stolen. These initiatives should dramatically reduce bike crime.
376,000 Bikes are stolen each year in the UK, or one bike every 90 seconds. In 2019 thefts were up 49% on the previous year and this trend shows no signs of stopping. These thefts have got to stop. Bikes are becoming increasingly important, both immediately due to the coronavirus but also due to climate change and the governments efforts to get more people cycling to work.
