Legislate to reduce the number of MPs and Lords, their salaries and expenses

Closed 813 signatures

What the petition asks

The Government is talking about making hard choices to get debt under control, when many MPs & Lords are wealthy & have private incomes. They need to make sacrifices to help reduce debt.
The Government should therefore legislate to cut the number of MPs and Lords, their salaries & expense claims.

I propose a 33% cut in numbers of MPs, and the House of Lords to be reduced to 100 members.

IPSA should be abolished, and salaries for MPs capped to twice the National Average, and no expenses for things the average UK worker cannot claim for, such as childcare & travel. Lords should have to attend all day to claim the daily allowance.

Any MP or Lord with sufficient private wealth should not be able to claim a salary or expenses. This would reduce the financial burden of Parliament.
