Supermarkets to close on Boxing Day

Rejected 15 signatures

What the petition asks

Retail staff have been working hard throughout the whole pandemic. We are always the ones to work on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, never getting enough time to spend Christmas with our families
Retail workers especially supermarket workers should be allowed to all have Boxing Day off to have a decent Christmas with their families

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Under current legislation it is up to individual retailers whether to open on bank holidays, although large shops in England and Wales must close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

We have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:

Make it legal requirement to close shops on bank holidays INCLUDING BOXING DAY: Make it legal requirement to close shops on bank holidays INCLUDING BOXING DAY

We could accept a petition calling for Boxing Day to be added to the list of days on which large businesses must close, if that's what you want to happen.
