Freeze MP's salaries in 2021
Rejected
10 signatures
What the petition asks
MP's are expected to have salary increases of £3,300 in April 2021 during a time when many are losing their jobs or facing pay freezes. MP salaries should be frozen during the Covid Pandemic is over or at least be brought in line with the same level that NHS staff are also seeing increases.
Emergency service workers have been the backbone of 2020 and are still reguarly given poor salary increases when MP's are given impressive increases regularly. We must no longer allow 'the one rule for us and one rule for them' mentality if we are truly in this together.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
