What the petition asks
Initial Teacher Training Bursaries for the year 2021-2022 show that for teachers training in arts and humanities subjects - including English which is a core subject- there is no funding for the duration of their PGCE. This funding must be reinstated.
The lack of funding for arts and humanities subjects will disproportionately impact prospective PGCE students from low income and ethnic minority backgrounds. This will lead to a shortage in NQT for core subjects such as English Language.
With Classical studies PGCE students receiving funding, there is no justification for subjects such as English to not receive funding. In a time where teachers are in high demand, there should not be barriers like this in place.
