Update the Equality Act and ban distributing/selling transphobic merchandise

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

We need the Government to ban distributing and selling anti-lgbt, especially transphobic, merchandise. It's extremely damaging to trans people. Hate should not be profitable and the equality act must be updated to include discriminatory merchandise.
If we are able to report and ban the selling of transphobic, anti-lgbt or other discriminatory merchandise then we are lessening the control of bigoted people. Even something as simple as making it possible to report transphobic merchandise can make a difference. No one should be able to make a profit off of discriminatory and hateful ideals. LGBT+ people, especially trans people, must be protected. And this is something small that could help.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Transphobic hate crimes are already illegal, although it's a matter for the police and the courts to decide what is included in this.

The Equality Act's protections are based on protected characteristics, rather than listing exactly what is included as discrimination, so we're not sure how you'd like the law to change.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
