What the petition asks
The Government should consider a UK ban on oil imports from Nigeria, pending a full review of reported human rights abuses, so that there is no risk of revenue from UK imports being used to finance activities which breach human rights, and of the sustainability of the oil industry.
The UK has a unique historic and contemporary commercial interest in Nigeria. And a responsibility to intervene regarding concerns about human rights and sustainability.
The fossil fuel industry feeds massive biodiversity loss, pollution, degradation of land and water resources.
The Government should consider a full ban on oil exports from Nigeria until full reviews of reported human rights abuses and sustainability of the oil industry has been completed.
An urgent targeted response is required.
