DVLA motorhome reclassification - clarification

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

DVLA have recently changed the classification of a Campervan conversion which used to be under the classification of Motorhome, now all Campervan’s are being rejected and classified as a van with side windows - this is unacceptable.
The van life community would now like a full investigation into how the DVLA decide if a van can be re-classified. How many applications were accepted and how many were rejected in the past 12 months.

The exact requirements that will enable a campervan conversion to be re-classified.

Clear reasons given in rejection letters for why it has been rejected.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The requirements for changing the body type of a vehicle to a motor caravan are set out by the DVLA here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motor-caravan/converting-a-vehicle-into-a-motor-caravan

If you are unhappy with a decision the DVLA has made about updating a registration certificate you should contact the DVLA to complain or appeal about this.

If you would like to request details of the number of applications to change a registration certificate you can request this information from the DVLA directly: https://www.gov.uk/make-a-freedom-of-information-request

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to review the requirements for changing the body type of a vehicle to a motor caravan, if that is what you want to happen.
