Stop the elimination of Freedom Passes

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Seniors need the Freedom Passes for uses on Buses and the Underground to continue.
The Freedom Pass initiative was a successful operation to encourage seniors to be more active with the obvious added health and NHS benefits and volunteering became an unexpected bonus..
. There are several reports, From AgeUK, National Pensioners Convention, and others with the statistics and details of the value seniors make to the economy.

It has been suggested that if the plan to do away with Freedom Passes the government will have to build more mental homes and hospitals!!
Seniors will not be active, and may suffer loneliness and the consequences may lead to mental illness.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the issue you raise is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. Freedom Passes are the responsibility of Transport for London and the London Assembly.

The London Assembly has its own petitions process. You can find out more about how to petition the London Assembly here:

There are no plans to eliminate Freedom Passes, but the Government's bailout for TfL has seen the temporary suspension of the Freedom Pass and 60+ card concessions to off peak hours. We could accept a petition calling on the Government to remove this condition from the bailout.
