Decrease MPs salaries by 25%

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

As stated, decrease all MPs salary by 25%
MP's don't need that amount of income when so many things are already covered/claimed back on expenses.

The taxpayer's money could (and should) be used elsewhere, in sectors that would actually benefit the taxpayers themselves and improve the society in which we live.
We do not give away their hard earned cash to give MPs a pay rise.

In these times, of economic strain, we are all having to make sacrifices. MPs should set the example. You've been voted to serve the country, not yourselves.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for setting MPs' pay. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.

You can find out more about IPSA here: https://www.theipsa.org.uk/about-us/
